This Shou Sugi Ban wooden sculpture is based on the Japanese wood preservation method that is also a popular way to finish wood projects. I am testing this finish for my sword stand. I started with a piece of raw pine wood, which is burnt, scraped, stained with yellow paint, sanded and finished with at least two coats of clear varnish. Oil or other finishes are possible.
